Bridal Path Modern Front Yard

Modern style builds are popping up everywhere these days. We love the clean fresh design of them and really like designing landscapes for them. This design carries the simplicity outdoors. It repeats the concrete wall of the house in the garden bringing cohesion of the architecture to the landscaping. If also features a poured concrete walkway and curbing, an interlocking brick driveway, and simple repeating plantings. We think it's just right!

Toronto Danforth

This downtown Toronto backyard, north of the Danforth, is your typical small backyard in this area. The client never imagined that we would say we could fit in a pool but was happy to hear that we thought that we could. 

We specified this small fibreglass lap pool (16'6"x9'-6") and created a contemporary modern landscape around it including a lounging patio with firetable, an area for a few chaise lounges to suntan, a small deck with space for a BBQ and a small dining table, and even a shed/cabana. 

It is still a lush space with ornamental grasses, hydrangea and tall Beech trees surrounding the patios. 

The low maintenance modern minimalist landscaping will definitely add to her lifestyle and we think her friends and family will love it.

Toronto Danforth Backyard Pool

Beaconsfield Village

Ipe porch and oversized floating porch steps; steel railings; cobblestone look paver walkway characterize this front yard makeover in downtown Toronto. 

The planting scheme is lush and romantic. 

Dufferin Grove Modern Backyard

This typical Dufferin Grove downtown Toronto property is long and narrow. It calls to be broken up into separate rooms to take away from the bowling alley effect. 

A short horizontal board screen with gardens on each side of it divides the dining and BBQ area from the lounging area. 

The lounging area features a floating wood bench and a firetable. 

Thin raised planters line the other side of the yard to maximize usable space. 

A Red Japanese Maple, ornamental grasses, cedars and sedges complement one another and soften the patio spaces. 

Beach Front Yard

This front yard in the upper beach area of Toronto was your typical front yard with a walkway/steps that was straight off the porch steps to the city sidewalk with an expanse of lawn. 

This design adds a more interesting meandering approach to the porch, removes the lawn replacing it with tiered planting beds using mostly ornamental grasses. 

The hydrangea and the Japanese Maple add a bit of colour and interest as well. 

We introduced a garbage/recycle mini shed up near the porch to hide these bins with Hicks Yews to soften the structure. 

The additional walkway/steps to the driveway allow a more direct connection to the mutual driveway and therefore to the bins on garbage day. 

The walls and steps are made of U-Cara by Unilock. The porch refaced with either a PVC wood or stained cedar.

Toronto High Park Modern Backyard

This Toronto project is a crisp modern design for a multi-levelled backyard in High Park, Toronto. 

It features 24"x24" porcelain tiles on the multiple patio levels, poured in place concrete retaining walls, horizontal cedar board fencing, and a waterproof second level deck. 

Note the built-in outdoor fire feature, concrete balls and the planting massing of multiple height trees/shrubs/ornamental grasses. 

Can't wait to have this one built for our portfolio! 

High Park Front Yard

This beautiful Victorian home in High Park, Toronto, needed updating on the outside. 

We gave it an elegant, eclectic modern design while adding some traditional plants that connected it to the past. 

The clay paver walkway laid at a 45-degree angle is reminiscent of older times. The dark black banding brings a modern touch to it.  

The precast concrete walls and pillars also point to the past with their chiselled face. 

Runnymede Backyard Makeover

Bloor West Village Terraced Front Yard

This King City front yard had tired, old, and basic landscaping from another era. The client wanted an update that would give the property curb appeal,  create a tiered landscape with a more elegant approach. 

Woodbridge Backyard

This is truly a modern backyard retreat with an outdoor kitchen that accommodates conversation while cooking at the sit-down bar, a beer fridge, and a sink for washing up. There is a formal dining area for 8 people, and a lounging patio space for after dinner conversation by the fire under the shelter of a pavilion in case the weather takes a turn for the worse. One will hear the gentle sound of water falling from a water wall in the background to give movement and a sound barrier to any sounds of the city. 

In case you and a friend want to have a private conversation, there is another small deck tucked away in the corner of the yard to do so. 

There will be ample lighting provided by a low-voltage lighting system that will highlight the landscaping at night providing safety and ambience to this backyard.

Etobicoke Backyard with Outdoor Kitchen

Lawrence Manor Backyard Sunken Patio

This Lawrence Manor backyard was a new house build in the Marlee/Lawrence area of Toronto. The design features a hot tub, firetable, aluminium pergola, shed, sunken patio, and water wall. 

The deck was an existing one but we added a basic outdoor kitchen tabletop and cabinets for the BBQ and a privacy screen. The existing smaller steps were replaced with full-length steps off the front of the deck.

The client wanted a sunken patio to create some privacy from the street and it definitely adds a dimension that is seldom seen. 

The water wall will add some white noise to shield out the noises from the street and will be a dramatic feature. The fire table gives another layer of interest for when friends are over. The hot tub will add another activity to enjoy with the family. The aluminum pergola features purlins that move to direct how little or home much sunlight through them and can even be shut completely which will make the area water proof. The versatility on these pergola's are amazing.

Etobicoke Front Yard Makeover

For this new home in Etobicoke, we were asked to design a new landscape that fits the home's style and incorporated a driveway and a walkway that could be converted into a bit of parking when needed. 

The stepping stones that traverse through the interlocking pavers break up the paving and make it a bit more fun. 

This new design creates an elegant front yard with both form and function resolved.

Lawrence Park South Eclectic Modern Backyard

This design re-imagines and re-purposes the garage leaving the front of it for storage. Since most people do not park their car in the garage, why not convert the back of the garage into an outdoor covered living room! 

The design adds an outdoor fireplace, a modern-styled waterfall, dining, and a built-in BBQ deck near the house. 

The garden plantings are modern, and the stonework is warm and inviting. Isn't it time you added additional rooms to your property?

Scarborough Front Yard

Moore Park Backyard Makeover

Our client had a large wish list for this small downtown Toronto backyard. This wish list included a trampoline, a ping pong table, a basketball patio, a lounging area, and a dining area.

As you will see this is challenging for a designer. I believe the elegance of the deck with covered roof at the house and the additional covered deck at the back near the garage gave a nice shine to the utility of all the sports/game pieces in the yard. 

Large poured-in-place concrete stepping stones add another dimension of unusual elegance to this backyard. 

Scarborough Front Yard 2

Beach Contemporary Hot Tub

This Beach backyard had an existing large dilapidated deck with an existing random flagstone patio. 

The client had purchased a hot tub and wanted a remake of the backyard incorporating this into a large deck. 

They wanted low maintenance with shade tolerant plants due to mature trees in hers and neighbouring yards blocking most of the sunlight. 

This simple composite deck with horizontal cedar fencing creates a simplified contemporary outdoor living space that will help achieve the client's low maintenance lifestyle. 

Leaside Eclectic Modern Front Yard

This Lawrence Park home has a unique style with its warm terra cotta clay brick construction. As beautiful as these homes are, they need landscaping that enhances their unique style. To bring their landscapes into the 21st century, we recommend larger walkways that give the expectation of something grander. 

A stone wall closer to the street adds an architectural element to the garden and gives a sense of enclosure. 

Lush plantings combine and blend into a welcoming entrance for this home. 

A combination of warmer modern styling and old-world charm. Imagine the excitement of arriving home from a busy workday in the city to experience your new landscape.



Leaside Park Eclectic Modern Front Yard

Etobicoke Backyard Makeover

This backyard of a new build Etobicoke home was almost a complete makeover except for leaving an existing shed. 

We designed a simple landing with steps down to a middle-level deck that was low enough not to require a railing giving the space an open feeling that relates to the surrounding landscape. 

The new lower patio incorporates a pergola for some afternoon shade and space to lounge under. Stepping stones connect everything, including the existing shed.  

East Danforth Backyard

This small Danforth backyard wanted their garage removed and a functional space created for dining, lounging, and barbequing. The geometric-patterned stepping stones visually connect the two patio spaces. 

Dawyck Gold Beech trees along the back fence will give privacy from second storey windows of adjoining homes. Specimen Holmstrup Cedars along the side will give similar privacy and gives winter evergreen interest. Pots filled with annuals add summer colour along with flowering perennials and ornamental grasses. 

A modern designed shed gives storage space now that the garage is gone and looks nicer than a garage. 

This will be a great space to enjoy for the family and entertain.  

Downtown Toronto Backyard

This Eglinton and Yonge downtown backyard was designed in a contemporary modern landscape style. It features a custom pergola over a lounging patio to block out the hot midday sun on this south facing backyard. 

The clients access into their backyard is through a side yard door which was a challenge to make an elegant architecturally pleasing entrance to this space. We designed a walkthrough pergola here that ties in nicely to the patio pergola. 

Stepping stones connect all the functional areas including the dining patio and add another architectural element. 



Downtown Toronto Contemporary Backyard

Vaughan Backyard

This backyard makeover involved re-designing and existing landscape that was over 20 years old. 

The client wanted an easier garden to maintain and wanted to add functionality near the house. 

The result was a more minimalist design incorporating an outdoor kitchen under a pavilion, a dining patio, and a living room space. 

The existing pool area was simplified, leaving room for suntanning and having fun. 

A more modern elegant feel was created with a calm palette of plants repeating and bringing a cohesive effect to this backyard. 

Toronto Backyard

This client was looking for "symmetry and simplicity". The existing landscape was in need of a complete overhaul due to a rotting deck and a makeshift piecemeal older landscape. 

This time around they did not want a deck but still wanted something that looked like a wood deck. We had just the product for them, Techo Bloc Borealis pavers which look like decking but are in fact concrete pavers. They won't rot and they look great.

They wanted the usual three usable areas: an area for dining, an area for lounging, and one to BBQ. 

The pergola was requested to add a sense of enclosure but also to block out the neighbours houses behind. Tall Purple Dawyck Beech trees were used in the back planter to also block the views of neighbours.

The horizontal board fence modernizes the space and creates the privacy from the neighbours. A simple BBQ area with a stone countertop was included to make BBQ'ing a bit easier.

Looking forward to installing this new design. 

Toronto Contemporary Backyard

Nobleton Backyard Plunge Pool

This small backyard in Nobleton was looking for a plunge pool and as much usable space as possible. 

The design incorporates a dining/BBQ deck near the house, with a deck next to the plunge pool with some chaise lounges. 

The water wall will add some soft noise to block out the city noises that are all around them, as well as add an architectural element to the garden. 

The additional walls next to the dining deck create a sense of enclosure for this space and tie it visually to the water wall. 

Beech trees and the Junipers on either side of the yard add some privacy and frame the backyard.

We have put a storage box for cushions and other things that need storing. 

Another storage shed could be added to hide the recycle/garbage bins if the client would like. 

All in all, it will be a nice urban garden to enjoy life in. 

Richmond Hill Backyard Modern Formal Landscape

Imagine what this backyard could feel like to entertain in. It features a dark stained wooden deck near the house for dining with a simple built-in BBQ; formal lounging area with views to an elegant firebowl and a dramatic modern waterfall wall. Cedars frame the property adding a lush backdrop that give privacy. We hope this speaks to the executive in you that wants to impress his business guests while remaining comfortable among friends.
