FRONT YARD PARKING PAD

Sloped Solutions | Landscaping a Sloped Front Yard

Landscaping a sloped front yard can be a challenge. Especially with the utility pole in the way. The best solution was an angled parking pad off the shared driveway.

BEFORE

The Client’s Dream

A referral from a project two doors down the previous year, our new client needed a parking pad solution that didn’t just look good but also tackled some tricky challenges—like working around a hydro pole. Plus, with some significant grade changes in the front yard, we had to ensure it flowed seamlessly and allowed easy access to the front entrance. This was no easy task.

Landscaping a Sloped Front Yard

This yard presented its own set of puzzles: navigating the steep slope, dealing with the existing landscape, and making sure the new parking pad didn’t feel cramped or out of place. The hydro pole presented a real obstacle, so angling the pad was the only way to work around it while keeping the space functional and accessible.

The Transformation

To make it all work, we angled the parking pad diagonally across the front yard connecting it to the mutual drive, ensuring it cleared the hydro pole and still provided ample room. We added a garden for visual appeal between the sidewalk and the new retaining wall—because who says a parking pad can’t look great?

Custom retaining walls were essential, supporting both the porch and the upper walkway while also holding back the neighbour’s parking pad. We used sturdy Siena Stone by Unilock for the retaining wall holding up the neighbour. We applied the Pisa 2 system for the steps and less structural walls, customising it near the street to maintain the grade and a clean aesthetic.

Details that Make it Shine

The aluminium spindle railings with wood posts and rails added the necessary safety and connected the woodwork to the stonework, blending the materials for a cohesive look. Low-voltage lighting was installed for nighttime visibility and ambience, while plantings like Morning Light Maidengrass, Daylilies, and Hydrangeas brought seasonal colour and texture to soften the space.

The Result

Now, our client has a front yard that works for parking and looks beautiful. It’s a perfect balance of hardscaping and softscaping—modern, functional, and transformed to fit their needs and style. It also increased the value of the house immensely.
