In the heart of downtown Toronto, just north of the Danforth, lies a charmingly compact backyard—an archetype of this bustling area. Surprisingly, our client had never considered the possibility of a pool in such a space, yet their excitement soared upon learning that we could make it happen.

We carefully selected a small fibreglass lap pool (16'6"x9'-6") and curated a sleek, contemporary landscape design. This transformation includes a relaxing lounging patio adorned with a fire bowl, an area dedicated to a few chaise lounges for basking in the sun, a petite deck housing a BBQ and a cozy dining table, alongside a quaint shed/cabana.

Lush greenery, such as ornamental grasses, hydrangeas, and majestic Beech trees, encircle these inviting patios, maintaining the area's verdant ambiance.

The low-maintenance, modern minimalist landscaping we've implemented is poised to enhance our client's lifestyle significantly, and we're confident it will be adored by her circle of friends and family.

Beaconsfield Village

In crafting the redesign for the front yard of this cozy residence in Toronto's Beaches neighborhood, our client envisioned an inviting space highlighted by an Ipe Brazilian hardwood porch boasting generously sized floating steps, complemented by sleek steel railings and a pathway with the charm of cobblestone.

To bring this vision to life, we selected Unilock Town Hall pavers for the walkway, incorporated a stylish Corten steel edger to outline the gardens, and introduced an array of verdant plantings along with a petite tree, creating both a sense of seclusion and an elevated ambiance suitable for the lofty stature of the dwelling.

The planting design exudes a lush and romantic aura, while the expansive porch steps contribute a laid-back and luxurious approach to enhance the overall appeal of the home.

Dufferin Grove Modern Backyard

In downtown Toronto's Dufferin Grove, this elongated property presents an opportunity to transform its layout into distinct, inviting spaces, mitigating its linear appearance.

To alleviate the sense of a stretched expanse, a segmented design approach is embraced. A low, horizontal board screen acts as a subtle divider, flanked by lush gardens, marking the boundary between the dining and BBQ zone and the tranquil lounging area.

Within the lounging section, an ethereal floating wooden bench and a centrepiece fire table create a cosy, welcoming ambience.

Maximising the area's potential, slender raised planters grace the opposite side, optimising usable space without compromising aesthetics.

The landscape palette showcases a harmonious blend of a striking Red Japanese Maple, ornamental grasses, cedars, and sedges. These elements harmonise and soften the patio spaces, adding depth and visual allure to the overall design.

Beach Front Yard

In Toronto's upper beach area, a conventional front yard has undergone a remarkable transformation. Gone is the typical straight path; instead, a winding walkway now gracefully leads to the porch, inviting a more captivating journey. The once expansive lawn has given way to enchanting tiered planting beds adorned with ornamental grasses, accented by bursts of vibrant hydrangeas and a Japanese Maple for a pop of color.

Functionality meets beauty with the addition of a discreet mini shed for garbage and recycling bins near the porch, cleverly softened by Hicks Yew shrubs. New walkways and steps offer direct access to the driveway, ensuring convenience for both everyday use and garbage collection days.

The landscape's allure is further heightened by the durable and stylish Unilock's U-Cara walls and steps. To complement this, the porch boasts either refined PVC wood cladding or the rustic elegance of stained cedar, elevating the facade's visual appeal to new heights.

Toronto High Park Modern Backyard

Inspired by modern aesthetics, this landscape design in High Park, Toronto, showcases a sleek multi-tiered backyard. The design highlights expansive 24"x 24" porcelain tiles across various patio levels, complemented by poured-in-place concrete retaining walls and stylish horizontal cedar board fencing.

A striking second-story deck overlooks the space, accompanied by thoughtful elements like a built-in outdoor fire feature, decorative concrete balls, and an artful arrangement of trees, shrubs, and ornamental grasses, creating diverse heights and textures in the planting.

Leslieville Backyard Makeover

In the heart of Leslieville lies a charming compact backyard, boasting a cozy dining patio accommodating four, adjoined by a petite lounging deck elevated a step higher. An artistically crafted custom pergola, our signature specialty, graces this space. Lush, minimalistic greenery punctuates the area, complemented by sleek horizontal board fencing that infuses a touch of modern elegance. Proving that even the quaint backyards of downtown Toronto can exude both functionality and style.

High Park North Terraced Front Yard

This overgrown High Park property, with outdated and lacklustre landscaping, needed a rejuvenating touch front yard makeover. We aimed to elevate its visual allure and introduce a sophisticated tiered design.

By integrating Unilock U-Cara walls and steps, we fashioned captivating multi-tiered plantings complemented by interlocking brick landings. The introduction of a meandering jogging pathway adds visual intrigue and balances the landscape, dispelling any sense of unilateral design.

This curb appeal transformation fulfils the client's aspirations, presenting a harmonious blend of aesthetics and functionality that harmonises seamlessly with the property's charm.

Etobicoke Backyard with Outdoor Kitchen

This is truly a modern backyard retreat with an outdoor kitchen that accommodates conversation while cooking at the sit-down bar, a beer fridge, and a sink for washing up. There is a formal dining area for 8 people, and a lounging patio space for after dinner conversation by the fire under the shelter of a pavilion in case the weather takes a turn for the worse. One will hear the gentle sound of water falling from a water wall in the background to give movement and a sound barrier to any sounds of the city. 

In case you and a friend want to have a private conversation, there is another small deck tucked away in the corner of the yard to do so. 

There will be ample lighting provided by a low-voltage lighting system that will highlight the landscaping at night providing safety and ambience to this backyard.

Lawrence Manor Backyard Sunken Patio

This Lawrence Manor backyard was a new house build in the Marlee/Lawrence area of Toronto. The design features a hot tub, firetable, aluminium pergola, shed, sunken patio, and water wall. 

The deck was an existing one but we added a basic outdoor kitchen tabletop and cabinets for the BBQ and a privacy screen. The existing smaller steps were replaced with full-length steps off the front of the deck.

The client wanted a sunken patio to create some privacy from the street and it definitely adds a dimension that is seldom seen. 

The water wall will add some white noise to shield out the noises from the street and will be a dramatic feature. The fire table gives another layer of interest for when friends are over. The hot tub will add another activity to enjoy with the family. The aluminum pergola features purlins that move to direct how little or home much sunlight through them and can even be shut completely which will make the area water proof. The versatility on these pergola's are amazing.

Etobicoke Front Yard Makeover

For the landscaping project at a recently constructed residence in Etobicoke, our task was to craft an outdoor environment that seamlessly complements the home's architectural style. The client's request included the integration of a driveway and a walkway, designed to flexibly transform into additional parking space when necessary.

The landscape showcases a harmonious blend of a traditional asphalt driveway adorned with a stone banding and interlocking pavers for the walkway and parking pad. This combination not only introduces a diverse palette of colors but also provides a tactile contrast in textures, adding visual interest to the overall design.

Incorporating stepping stones amidst the interlocking pavers introduces an element of playfulness, effectively breaking up the paving and infusing a dynamic quality into the space.

The lush plantings enveloping the landscape contribute to its vibrant appeal. The strategic use of modern hybrid varieties of hydrangea, complemented by contemporary ornamental grasses and evergreen hedges of Yews and Boxwood, elevates the aesthetics of the front yard.

In essence, this innovative design not only imparts an elegant and sophisticated appearance to the front yard but also seamlessly integrates form and function, resulting in a well-resolved outdoor space.

Our task was to enhance the curb appeal of a recently renovated Scarborough home. The builder sought a landscape design that would harmonize with the home's modern style while providing privacy from neighboring views. To achieve this, we installed sleek horizontal board cedar screens along the property lines and strategically placed columnar Dawyck Gold Beech trees.

Creating an air of elegance, low decorative walls with pillars were incorporated into the front yard, offering a refined space to display the address on the nearest pillar facing the street. Adding both aesthetic allure and functionality, a meandering rectilinear walkway was introduced, surrounded by a blend of contemporary and vibrant plantings that amplify the home's modern charm.

Overall, our efforts have significantly elevated the property's curb appeal, aligning the landscape seamlessly with the home's updated aesthetic.

Moore Park Backyard Makeover

In crafting the landscape for this compact downtown Toronto backyard, our client presented an ambitious wishlist: a trampoline, a ping pong table, a basketball patio, a lounging space, and a dining area.

Meeting these diverse demands was a stimulating challenge. I aimed to blend functionality with ambiance by designing an elegant deck with a covered roof attached to the house, complemented by an additional covered deck near the garage. These structures seamlessly elevated the usability of the various sports and game installations throughout the yard.

In this petite Danforth backyard, the transformation was remarkable: the removal of the garage paved the way for a multifunctional haven catering to dining, relaxation, and outdoor cooking. The artfully arranged geometric stepping stones seamlessly link the two patio areas.

Strategically planted Dawyck Gold Beech trees along the rear fence ensure privacy from neighboring second-story windows, while the specimen Holmstrup Cedars along the side offer similar seclusion and year-round visual interest with their evergreen foliage. Vividly colored annuals in pots, flowering perennials, and elegant ornamental grasses infuse the space with summer vibrance.

A sleek, modern shed now occupies the former garage's footprint, providing practical storage and enhancing the overall aesthetic.

Downtown Toronto Contemporary Backyard

In the heart of downtown at Eglinton and Yonge, this backyard embodies a fusion of contemporary elegance within its landscape. A tailored pergola shades the lounging patio, shielding it from the intense midday sun that bathes this south-facing space.

Stepping stones not only link various functional zones, such as the dining patio, but also contribute an architectural flair to the overall design.

Adding both sophistication and practicality, the built-in BBQ seamlessly integrates into the dining patio, elevating the space for culinary indulgence.


Vaughan Backyard Outdoor Kitchen Pavillion

This backyard makeover involved re-designing and existing landscape that was over 20 years old. 

The client wanted an easier garden to maintain and wanted to add functionality near the house. 

The result was a more minimalist design incorporating an outdoor kitchen under a pavilion, a dining patio, and a living room space. 

The existing pool area was simplified, leaving room for suntanning and having fun. 

A more modern elegant feel was created with a calm palette of plants repeating and bringing a cohesive effect to this backyard.

Danforth Backyard Hot Tub

This small backyard in the Danforth area was looking for a plunge pool and as much usable space as possible. 

The design incorporates a dining/BBQ deck near the house, with a deck next to the plunge pool with some chaise lounges. 

The water wall will add some soft noise to block out the city noises that are all around them, as well as add an architectural element to the garden. 

The additional walls next to the dining deck create a sense of enclosure for this space and tie it visually to the water wall. 

Beech trees and the Junipers on either side of the yard add some privacy and frame the backyard.

We have put a storage box for cushions and other things that need storing. 

Another storage shed could be added to hide the recycle/garbage bins if the client would like. 

All in all, it will be a nice urban garden to enjoy life in.

Beach Backyard Makeover

In this Beaches backyard, there was a plain lower deck lacking privacy and a small shed tucked away in a corner. The goal was to enhance privacy along the deck, create a low-maintenance lawn for shaded areas, and revamp the existing outdoor space.

To address this, we introduced a raised planter with cedars on one side of the deck and a horizontal wooden privacy screen on the other. Complementing this, an artificial lawn bordered by crisp flagstones added definition to the lower area, while stepping stones leading to the shed brought an additional layer of charm.

Along the back, tall cedar plantings and tiered plant arrangements not only provided the desired privacy but also diversified the backyard's plant palette. The existing decks, given some care and new stains, were revitalised and now flow seamlessly up to the different levels of the house.
